Our History

From humble beginnings as a furniture dealership, to becoming London’s trusted office fit-out partners to hundreds of organisations, here are the milestones that have defined Cityspace since 1989.

1989

Cityspace founded as a furniture dealership providing solutions to European and North American blue-chip multi-Nationals.

1995

Microsoft 95 Windows arrives, transforming many businesses by introducing huge numbers of people around the world to computers and the Internet.

1996

Improving efficiency and space management in the workplace, the corner core desk arrives, providing users with space for the CRT colour PC monitor.

1997

Andrew Seward joined Cityspace and formed the construction division.

1998

Cityspace engages in electronic communication(through its first email address,info@) allowing the combination of several media, such as data, graphics, video and sound into one message.

2001

Cityspace has one of the first Mitel VOIP phone installs in London for placing and transmitting telephone calls over an IP network, such as the Internet, instead of the traditional public switched telephone network (PSTN).

2003

Andrew Seward (Managing Director) purchases the company, trading history and brand.

2004

Utilisation of office space transformed through the replacement of Wave desks and the introduction of Corner core desking.

2005

Desk innovation and adaptation from rectangular to wave, generates space efficiency changes, enabling replacement of the CRT monitor and the mainstream adoption of LCD flat screens.

2006

Bench desk arrives enabling improved communication opportunities and more flexible working.

2007

Cityspace invests in the development of the business through introduction of its first iPhone and production of 3D design visuals in house.

2008

Cityspace is an early adopter of Activity Based Working (ABW), using it as a transformational business strategy with its first client.

2009

Cityspace transforms the ethos of the office environment through installation of furniture pods, enabling meeting spaces to be created seamlessly in an open plan environment.

2010

Cityspace embraces the connectivity of design, construction and individual well-being by incorporating monitor arms with reference to established ergonomics.

2013

Cityspace embraces the departure of central office communication rooms and supports the mainstream adoption of remote data centres on the cloud.

2014

Since 1989, Cityspace successfully moves and refurbishes over 1,000 companies and continues to provide a wide range of services to new and existing clients.

2015

Cityspace supports business transformation through its advancement of Activity Based Working using client survey/evaluation methodology. 

2016

Building on its approach to Activity Based Working, Cityspace explores the incorporation of individual well-being within its business strategy. 

2017

Cityspace completes its 1300th project. All were delivered on time, on budget, and without any health and safety issues.  

2018

Cityspace’s property database exceeds 10,000 records, offering clients the widest choice of both on and off-market opportunities.

2019

Cityspace celebrates 30 years of providing clients with market leading workplace design and build.

2020

Cityspace introduces 10 Standards to help clients create workplace risk assessments and put in place measures during the COVID-19 pandemic. 

2021

A blended office approach is driving changes in workspace design. Cityspace launches a comprehensive program to help clients transition to a method of hybrid working that works for each individual business. 

2022

Cityspace completes their most valuable and complex project to date on behalf of Evergreen Marine, Cityspace provides a comprehensive strip back and refurbishment of a 1980’s building, with no access to drawings and significant structural changes required. See our full case study HERE

2023

Cityspace gains ISO 9001 & ISO 14001 certifications, demonstrating  commitment to improving the quality of their business along with environmental management.  

2023

Cityspace completes its largest project to date, on behalf of Raymond James’ merger with Charles Stanley. Carried out over two sites, with multiple floors, over 40,000 sq ft, and consolidating 3 locations. See our full case study HERE

2024

Cityspace celebrates 35 years of providing clients with market-leading workplace design and build. Completing over 2000 projects, all delivered on time, on budget and without any health and safety issues.  

2026

Cityspace is commissioned for a project with one of their longest-standing clients, marking their 36th project together, and the second largest project in all of Cityspace’s history.
